Currently the 25 hectares of the farm’s vineyards include the grape varieties Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Nero, Sagrantino, Chardonnay and Verdicchio. The vast majority of the cuttings used are produced on-site on the farm’s nursery. As soon as the vine replanting process is complete, the Cellars will also be reopened so we can once again make wine on our premises.
An historical testimony to this activity is provided by the ancient cellars of Collelungo, dug out over 100 years ago into the rock underneath the fortress. This cellar, which still today conserves intact the ancient oak casks, is built on three levels and at the end of the 19th century produced up to 3500 hectolitres of wine a year. In its time it represented an important centre for experimenting avant-garde cultivation and winemaking techniques. The wine of Collelungo was presented at numerous viticulture exhibitions, with great success, winning important prizes such as "the gold medal with 1000 lire" conferred by the Ministry for Agriculture in 1886, a gold medal in Orvieto in 1891 and another gold medal in Zurich in 1893.
